Youth Forum on 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda

Yesterday marked the start of the UN Economic and Social Council’s (ECOSOC) Youth Forum (Feb 1-2, 2016) at UN Headquarters in New York. The Forum, which brings together youth delegates, organizations and global networks, focuses on youth involvement in implementing the 2030 agenda on sustainable development as its transitions from the former UN Millennium Development Goals.

With some 1.8 billion youth (aged 10-24) around the world – the majority of whom live in developing countries – young  people are more poised than ever to provide meaningful impact and engagement in international policy that supports both themselves and their communities.¹  In line with the targets set by the sustainable development goals, some of the thematic areas to be discussed at this year’s Forum include: youth employment, education, climate change, gender equality, poverty, and the promotion of partnerships and regional priorities for youth.
